Are you getting “Updating Aperture Videos Events” and iMovie just hanging?

Open your Aperture Library. (By clicking on Show the Package Contents)

Delete iMovie->Thumbnails and iLifeShared

I would also recommend running Onyx to clean your caches and repair permissions.
